Improve your English language skills to the level required by your Newcastle University degree, from anywhere in the world. This intensive programme offers progress of 0.5–1.0 IELTS points per term (depending on course length).
You’ll increase your confidence in English reading, writing, listening and speaking – both in social and academic settings – with a focus on subject-specific vocabulary and study skills.
Our online course is highly interactive, offering the same expert teaching and high standards as our in-person classes. If you prefer to learn face-to-face, we also offer an on-campus Pre-sessional English course.

For Bands 1-4:
Pre-Sessional 10 week (Campus) & 12 week (Online) Requires: IELTS 5.5 (with 5.5 in all sub-skills)
Pre-Sessional 6 week (Campus) & 8 week (Online) Requires: IELTS 6.0 (with 5.5 in all sub-skills)
PGT degrees courses in Bands 5, 7 and 11 have higher Pre-Sessional English requirements. PGT degree courses in Bands 6 and 12-18 do not accept Pre-Sessional English.

Only an official IELTS result or equivalent recognised English language test will be accepted as proof of English language proficiency. Other English language tests are accepted by the University for entry, including Pearson PTE and Duolingo.
